Myofascial Release Technique

Course Description:
This course is based on the work of several authors who have developed their own approaches to releasing of fascial restrictions and balancing of the various body areas. This course will focus on the work of Sharon Weiselfish-Giamatteo P.T., Ph.D. This course will explore the various direct and indirect techniques used with emphasis on the indirect techniques.
 
The Course Objectives:
To study the anatomical and biomechanical rationale underlying myofascial release
Being able to list the indications and contra-indications for Myofascial Release for all patient populations
Explain the theory behind Myofascial Release using motor learning theory and accepted principles of neurology, physiology and kinesiology
Integrate Myofascial Release into your current clinical practice
Document changes in the patient's physical status using accepted and reliable physical measurements
 
You will learn to release the fascia by static, direct and indirect techniques for:
Psoas Complex
Cervical spine
Thorax
Lumbo-Sacral area
Sacro-Iliac area
Upper Extremities
Lower Extremities
 
Please note:
Each participant should dress appropriately. Men should wear swim trunks or shorts. Women should wear two-piece bathing suits or shorts and a halter top. Room temperatures are always a problem. Therefore, participants are urged to wear sweatpants and sweatshirts over their lab clothes.
A lecture, demonstration, and group practice session format. All techniques will be shown on slides and demonstrated on class participants.
Effective use of myofascial release treatments requires you to develop a sensitivity to what you feel when evaluating patients and athletes. This hands-on course introduces practical techniques that you can use throughout your career as you perfect these important skills with experience.
